How does cold weather affect my battery?

Summertime is harshest on an automotive battery. Often the damage done to a battery happens when it’s hot, but the failure may not happen until it is cold. Heat accelerates corrosion and leads to electrolyte loss that weakens the battery’s energy levels.

When the temperatures drop suddenly, colder temperatures reduce cranking power available. When this is combined with thicker motor oil and slower cranking, the battery may not have enough juice to start your vehicle. Get your battery tested before the real cold weather hits.
